The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is a private, non-profit 50l(c)(3) community development corporation founded in 1991. About this role:
The Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) is hiring a part-time Eviction Prevention Canvasser to support in-person outreach efforts to tenants at risk of eviction in Washington, D.C. This temporary role runs through December 2025, with the potential for early termination or extension depending on organizational needs. The Canvasser may also assist with outreach, facilitation, and logistical support for LEDC’s weekly Eviction Defense Hub. While the schedule is flexible, evening and weekend availability is required.
Required Qualifications
- Available some weekends and weekday afternoons/evenings (typically between 4–8pm)
- Comfortable with in-person outreach, including door-knocking
- Willing and able to travel throughout all D.C. neighborhoods (a car isn’t required, but you should feel confident navigating public transportation)
- Able to clearly explain tenant rights and options during the eviction process (don’t worry—training on the content will be provided!)
- Enjoys talking with new people and striking up conversations
- Friendly, approachable, and kind in interactions
- Passionate about helping tenants stay in their homes and fighting against eviction and displacement
- Has access to a working cell phone
Desired Qualifications
- Comfortable with data entry, typing, and using tools like Microsoft Office and Excel
- Previous experience or familiarity with tenant rights or community organizing is a plus
- Experience with outreach or canvassing work
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
This position will be supervised by the Tenant Services Program Manager. It is a part-time, temporary role through December 2025, with the possibility of extension or early termination based on program needs. The position pays $25/hour and offers a flexible schedule of up to 15 hours per week.
